Sweet poison



Too much of anything is not a good thing. When it comes to sugar, it’s important to know what you are putting
into your body.

Sugars are the building blocks of carbohydrates, the body’s source of energy. It occurs naturally in fruits, vegetables, grains and dairy products, but is also added to processed foods such as candy, soft drinks, flavored dairy products, snack foods etc.

Too much sugar can contribute to health problems such as obesity and diabetes because sugars contain a whole bunch of calories with no essential nutrients. For this reason, they are called ‘empty’ calories.

Some of the damaging effects of eating too much sugar are:
Tooth decay
Weight gain
Diabetes
Obesity
High blood pressure
Diarrhea

In order to reduce the risk of the above effects, it’s important to limit food and drinks with high amount of sugars and choose foods with naturally occurring sugars such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
